Radical Rest: Gentle and Restorative Yoga

In a culture that pushes you to constantly produce, grind, and burn out, allowing yourself the space to rest is a radical act of care.

Within an anti-capitalist and intersectional framework this workshop uses breath, gentle movement, and restorative yoga, to unravel and practice what we were always intended to do, and resource ourselves with the rest we need. While capitalism treats us like machines, we protest this by giving ourselves permission to experience our bodies as a site of liberation and connection. For capitalism our rest is an interruption, for us it’s a portal. This practice will work with the nervous system to shift us towards states in which we can recover, process, and heal. This is a practice for survivors to slow down, recover, and find greater restfulness and ease as a deepening of their activism and community care.

With Lou (they/he)

Lou (they/he) is a yoga teacher and massage therapist, who helps people connect with their bodies, themselves and their communities. They specialise in trauma-informed, accessible, and therapeutic approaches to wellbeing, and working with LGBTQIA+, disabled, and neurodivergent communities. Lou’s offerings take an adaptable approach, and emphasises consent and autonomy to guide folks towards their own instincts, expression, and creativity. They have a deep respect for the practice and roots of yoga, and engage in a continuous process of study and reflection as a white practitioner, acknowledging the colonial erasure and violence of its history and the on-going cultural appropriation and lack of access for POC within the industry. Lou’s work comes from their lived experience as a mad, disabled, queer, and trans survivor. Outside of yoga, they love hanging out with their chihuahua, getting involved in the local LGBTQ community, and taking lots of naps.
